Remove racist and defamatory books

We have achieved the main aim of the campaign. Redistribution of the book has been stopped. Awareness has been raised. However it seems Exclusive Books will continue to sell the book, stay tuned for more info.

Remove racist and defamatory books

Stop "Rainbow Nation Navigation: A Practical Guide To South African Cultures" from distribution.

Why is this important?

The information, particularly about Coloured people in South Africa is defamatory and racist. The information is ill informed and dangerous in creating assumptions about millions of South Africans. The publisher Paula Marais has taken no responsibility for the chapter by saying other people wrote it and it was verified by people of "that" culture, further exposing her attitude towards accountability.

Reasons for signing

  • I signed because, as a Proudly Colored, everything in this book is hogwash, it seems the author knows absolutely nothing about us Coloureds and I can't understand how this book could of been published and sold,as far as I am concerned, this is the worst insult to our Colored race and community.
  • Racist drivel!
  • I signed because I will not have some pseudo writer distort my identity with her racism

Thank you all for signing this petition. We have made positive strides in disrupting dominant and often racist narratives about Coloured identity. The publisher and author has agreed to stop the sale of the book until the chapter is revised.
The book has been reported to the Human Rights Commission by other's who also took it upon themselves to make a stand against racism and misinformation. We will be following this closely.
I am saddened that bookstores like Exclusive Books do not understand how important representation is and that continuing the sale of such material is an act against progression.
I will be closing the petition as my aim to raise awareness and put an end to the redistribution of the book has been achieved and many have been mobilised.
Thank you all once again. We cannot be rendered invisible any longer!
Kind Regards,
Jacqlyne Titus
