Fine World Sports Betting Company for advertising to minors

Gambling companies have gotten so shameless that they are now trying to soft-launch themselves into our schools. Recently, World Sports Bet went to Cornwall Hill College, a preschool. And in the footage, you can see them operating a gambling prize wheel in front of minors. This violates our current National Gambling Act.

We demand:

  • An apology from World Sports Bet
  • A maximum statutory fine for World Sports for advertising gambling to minors (as per the National Gambling Act)

Why is this important?

South Africa is currently dealing with a gambling crisis, which is worsened by the aggressive marketing/advertisements of gambling companies. It is clear that gambling companies are trying to normalise gambling at every level of society – and for every age, even appealing to minors. We have to protect vulnerable children and also hold gambling companies to account, and make it clear that there are lines they should not cross.
