We demand Urgent Reform of TVET Diploma Application waiting period and process
We are tired of waiting forever for our diploma applications to be removed. The DHET system says 3 to six months waiting, but some of us end up waiting for longer periods before we get a response. It is so frustrating.
This is why we are calling on the Department of Higher Education and Training to:

- Reduce Waiting Periods: Implement a maximum processing time of 1–2 Months for the diploma application process.
- Allow students to submit directly to the DHET department to avoid delays by colleges keeping our applications for months before submitting them to DHET.
- Improve Communication: Establish a proactive system in which DHET verifies minor errors directly with host employers rather than penalising students.
- Revise Rejection Criteria: Ensure that only substantive errors result in rejection, not minor administrative oversights.
- Provide clear rejection possibilities which can be referred to.
- Enhance Transparency: Provide accurate, accessible, and user-friendly tracking systems for learners to monitor their applications.
- National Accountability: Recognise that these frustrations are shared across all provinces and require urgent national-level intervention.
Why is this important?
We all know the frustration of waiting 3/6 months to years for a diploma application, only to be rejected over a minor error like a missing stamp or date. This is not fair, and it is delaying our futures.
