DMF 16Days of Activism against GBVF 2022

The struggle to end GBV in our communities continues, The Disele May Foundation has moved on to set up a shelter for victims of GBV, and they are located in 54 6th St, La Rochelle, Johannesburg South, 2091.

Disele May Foundation; founded in November 2017 and is registered as a non-profit (NPC) and Social Development NPO certificate registration number: 247-950; advocates for awareness and accountability, of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children abuse in the fight against GBVF, 365 Days a year.

GBVF is an umbrella definition including a wide range of expressions of violence such as intimate partner violence, sexual violence by non-partners, Female Genital mutilation (FGM), honour violence, early marriage, violence against LGBTQI and trafficking in human beings.

Having piloted some of our projects in prisons, shelters and communities, DMF is looking to expand and reach out to more prisons, shelters and communities nationally and ultimately in the African continent. DMF in partnership with various correctional centres and shelters, have been embarking on prevention awareness programs and campaigns that are geared towards the fight against Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) for the past 7 years.

The 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign (16 Days Campaign) is a United Nations campaign which takes place annually from 25 November (International Day of No Violence against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day).

In 2018, during the 16 days activism, DMF held a dialogue session as part of its drive towards the fight against GBVF to understand the root causes. The dialogue brought together, stakeholders, victims, survivors and perpetrators to discuss experience, triggers and need to empower survivors and offenders and perpetrators on their journey of recovery, healing and independence.

During the 2022 16 Days period, DMF would like to host, together with civil society and the private sector, a series of community and sector dialogues and activities to foster a collaborative effort in dealing with GBVF; in order to support and empower victims, survivors, perpetrators and offenders for their own betterment and those of their children in various communities and societies.

We believe “We come as 1, but stand as 10,000” and therefore “it takes a village” to build communities and social capital for a long-lasting impact. We know we can not stand alone and this is why DMF needs your support in order to reduce and ultimately stop the scourge of GBVF in S.A.

Why is this important?

As citizens of S.A we all have a mandate to build the country’s brand reputation, in order to improve its global competitiveness, and to develop and implement proactive, coordinated marketing and communications reputation management strategies for South Africa.

We strongly recommend a commitment to an uplifting ethos that promotes social and economic change and progress, to influence an improved outlook of S.A to the world in relation to the scourge of GBVF in the country.

DMF believes that Corporate S.A and Government have the responsibility to make a meaningful contribution to building South Africa's economy, and communities in alleviating violence, crime, unemployment and retaining empowerment opportunities.

We at Disele May Foundation believe that your participation and involvement during the global 16 Days of Activism, would add to its global relevance and strengthen the combat against different forms of human rights violation in our society and the nation at large.
